SUMMARY

This article describes how to post HyperText Markup Language (HTML) output generated by Microsoft Publisher, to the Geocities FTP server by using the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard version 1.52.

You can post HTML content to Geocities by following these steps:
  1. Start the Web Publishing Wizard. On the File menu, click Publish To The Web.
  2. On the "Publish Your Files on the Web" panel, click Next.
  3. On the Name The Web Server panel, type a descriptive name like Geocities and then click Advanced.
  4. From the Service Provider list on the Select Your Service Provider panel, click FTP. Click Next.
  5. In the URL Or Internet Address box on the "Specify the URL and Directory" panel, type the following URL:

    http://www.geocities.com

    Click Next.
  6. In the FTP Server Name box on the "Specify the FTP Server and Subfolder" panel, type the following server name:

    ftp.geocities.com

    Click Next.

    NOTE: If you are running the Web Publishing Wizard from within Publisher, do not specify a subfolder.
  7. On the Publish Your Files panel, click Finish.
  8. In the Enter Network Password dialog box, type your Geocities user name and your password. Click OK. If you entered the correct user name and password, the files will be copied to the Geocities FTP server.

If you see the files transferring to the server but you receive the following error message

The Web Publishing Wizard was unable to publish your file(s) to the Web server for the following reason: The FTP session was terminated.
click OK. Click Browse, select your Web location, and determine if the files were posted correctly. This error may appear if you are posting through proxy client software or if traffic is heavy on the destination server.

NOTE: If you received this error message, the Web server setting you specified in Step 3 will not be saved, even though the files were posted to the server.
