PPT: Dates Greater Than 2038 Appear as Asterisk (*) (182545)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
- Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95
This article was previously published under Q182545 SYMPTOMS When you save a presentation from one of the versions of
PowerPoint listed at the beginning of this article in PowerPoint 4.0 format,
PowerPoint saves the date incorrectly and it will be displayed as an asterisk
rather than the correct date. This behavior occurs if the following
are true:
- The system date is set to the year 2038 or greater.
-and- - You inserted date fields in your presentation and chose to
have them update automatically.
CAUSE The PP7trans.dll file that PowerPoint uses to translate the
file to PowerPoint 4.0 format does not handle dates greater than 2038.
STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the
Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
