Microsoft Mail Postoffice Icon Missing in Control Panel (182471)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows Messaging, Microsoft Exchange, or Microsoft Outlook, the Microsoft Mail Postoffice icon may be missing in Control Panel.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Wgpoadmn.dll file and the Wgpocpl.cpl file in the Windows\System folder are missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:

Windows 95

Extract a new copy of the Wgpoadmn.dll file and the Wgpocpl.cpl file from your original Windows 95 disks or CD-ROM into the Windows\System folder. The Wgpoadmn.dll file is located in the following locations:
  • The Win95_06.cab cabinet file on the Windows 95 CD-ROM.
  • The Win95_10.cab cabinet file on the Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) CD-ROM.
  • The Win95_07.cab cabinet file on disk 11 of the original Windows 95 DMF floppy disks.
  • The Win95_11.cab cabinet file on disk 18 of the original Windows 95 non-DMF floppy disks.
The Wgpocpl.cpl file is located in the following locations:
  • The Win95_06.cab cabinet file on the Windows 95 CD-ROM.
  • The Win95_09.cab cabinet file on the Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) CD-ROM.
  • The Win95_07.cab cabinet file on disk 11 of the original Windows 95 DMF floppy disks.
  • The Win95_10.cab cabinet file on disk 18 of the original Windows 95 non-DMF floppy disks.

Windows 98

  1. Insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then close the Windows 98 screen if it appears.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following command, and then press ENTER

    <drive>:\tools\oldwin95\message\us\wms.exe

    where <drive> is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive.
