This article was previously published under Q182208

SUMMARY

When you use a UserForm in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, there is no control that is equivalent to the Combination List-Edit control for custom dialog boxes in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel. You can simulate the behavior of a Combination List-Edit box on a UserForm by using a TextBox control and a ListBox control. This article contains an example that uses these controls to simulate a Combination List-Edit box.

  2. On Sheet1, enter the following values:

    A1: January
    A2: February
    A3: March
    A4: April
    A5: May

  3. Start the Visual Basic Editor (press OPTION+F11).
  4. On the Insert menu, click UserForm.
  5. Draw a TextBox control on the UserForm.
  6. On the UserForm, draw a ListBox control below the Textbox control.
  7. Double-click the UserForm to open the Code window for the UserForm.
  8. In the Visual Basic module, type the following code:
          ' This subroutine populates the ListBox control when the UserForm
          ' Loads.
          Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()

             ListBox1.List = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("a1:a5").Value

          End Sub

          ' This subroutine populates the TextBox control with the selected
          ' item in the ListBox control.
          Private Sub ListBox1_Click()

            TextBox1.Text = ListBox1.Value

          End Sub

  9. Run the UserForm
When you click an item in the ListBox control, the TextBox control changes to reflect the current selection.
