PRJ98: Error Processing Request Opening Message in Web TeamInbox (180635)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q180635 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you open a workgroup message in your
TeamInbox or access your Task List from your Web server, you may receive
the following error message:
An error occurred while processing the request. Try logging on again.
CAUSE
This error message occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- You are using Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0 or
Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0 for Windows NT.
- The Web server is on is a Windows NT File System (NTFS)
partition.
- NTFS permissions security is set to read-only for Everyone on the
folder using Web-based workgroup messaging.
- Someone sent you a TeamAssign message from Microsoft Project prior
to the NTFS permissions being set to read-only.
To correctly set up workgroup messaging, Everyone must have Full Control
permissions on the shared folder where Web-based messages are stored. If
you change permissions back to read-only after setting up workgroup
messaging, you will receive the error message described in the "Symptoms"
section the next time someone sends you a workgroup message.
NTFS permissions take precedence over permissions assigned to a shared
folder. For example, if you have Full Control permissions on a shared
folder, but read-only NTFS permissions on the folder, then you will only
have read access to the folder.
RESOLUTIONChange NTFS Permissions to Full Control
To resolve this error message, change NTFS Permissions to Full Control for
Everyone by following these steps:
- Open Windows Explorer on the computer running the Web server.
- Double-click the folder containing the Web server software,
and then double-click on the Wwwroot folder.
- Right-click the folder containing Microsoft Project's Web-based
workgroup files, and then click Properties on the shortcut
menu.
- On the Security tab, click Permissions.
- In the Directory Permissions dialog box, click the group
Everyone.
- In the Type Of Access list, click Full Control.
- Click to select the Replace Permissions On Subdirectories and
Replace Permissions On Existing Files check boxes.
- Click OK.
