This article was previously published under Q180380

SYMPTOMS

After you insert an image hotspot on an image, you can no longer select the text overlay you have placed on that image.

CAUSE

If you apply the image hotspot after the text overlay, you cannot select the text overlay. For more information on how FrontPage handles text overlays, please see the "More Information" section later in this article.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Move the Image Hotspot

  1. Click to select the image hotspot.
  2. Drag the image hotspot so that the text overlay is visible.

Method 2: Delete the Image Hotspot

  1. Click to select the image hotspot.
  2. Press the DELETE key on the keyboard.

Method 3: Use Your Text Overlay as an Image Hotspot

  1. Click to select the text overlay.
  2. Right-click on the text overlay, and then click Image Hotspot Properties on the menu that appears.
  3. Click the page that you want to link to, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you add a text overlay, the text for the image is stored as an image in the hidden folder named _overlay. When you save the page, FrontPage uses the source image and combines it with the overlay image to create the derived image. The derived image is stored in the hidden folder named _derived. When you browse to the page, your Web browser displays the derived image.
