XL98: Visual Basic Editor Appears When You Display UserForm (180353)

SYMPTOMS

If you run a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro that displays a UserForm, the Visual Basic Editor may appear when the UserForm is displayed.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • In the Visual Basic Editor, the UserForm window is the active window. -and-

  • You do not switch back to Microsoft Excel by clicking "Close and Return to Microsoft Excel" on the File menu. Instead, you click a workbook window in the background. -and-

  • You then run a macro that displays the UserForm.
Note that when you close the UserForm, the Visual Basic Editor disappears from the screen.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem from occurring, do either of the following:

  • Switch back to Microsoft Excel by clicking "Close and Return to Microsoft Excel" on the File menu. -or-

  • Before you switch back to Microsoft Excel, activate a window other than a UserForm window (for example, a module window or the project window).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
