This article was previously published under Q179846 SYMPTOMS
When you create one of the following, Word does not add the additional tabs
in the compiled table of contents or index:
- A table of contents using TOC entries based on either a heading style or
TC fields containing more than one tab.
-or-
- An index from XE field entries containing more than one tab.
CAUSE
Word tries to eliminate the possibility of awkward or inappropriate spacing
in your compiled table of contents or index, especially when you have set
