This article was previously published under Q179720

SUMMARY

Microsoft Publisher installs three .cag files that occupy approximately 35 megabytes (MB) of hard disk space. However, you can add these files to Microsoft Clip Gallery so that you can use the files directly from the compact disc rather than from your hard disk. This article describes how to add these files to Microsoft Clip Gallery so that you can access them from the compact disc.

MORE INFORMATION

To add the .cag files to Microsoft Clip Gallery and select the images from the compact disc, follow these steps:
  1. Start Windows Explorer. To do this, point to Programs on the Start menu and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Find the clip art folder. By default, this folder is the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Clipart\Publisher folder.
  3. Rename the following files:

    Pub98bal.cag Pub98cor.cag Pub98jww.cag

  4. Start or switch to Publisher.
  5. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.

You will see the following message for each of the cag files that you renamed in step 3:

Clip Gallery cannot open the Previews file.

Click "Don't attempt to open that file in the future" and then click OK.
  6. Insert the Publisher compact disc into your CD-ROM drive and then click Import Clips.
  7. In the Look In list, select your CD-ROM drive. Double-click the Clipart folder.
  8. In the Files Of Type list, select Clip Gallery Packages. Click the Pub98bal.cag file to select it, hold down the CTRL key, and then click the Pub98cor.cag and the Pub98jww.cag files. All three files should be selected. Click Open.
  9. When you receive a message asking you if you want to restart Clip Gallery click OK. Note that this message may appear two times.
Clip Gallery will now access Pub98bal.cag, Pub98cor.cag, and Pub98jww.cag from your compact disc rather than the hard disk. If you want, you can switch to Windows Explorer and delete the three files you renamed in step 3.

NOTE: If you don't have the Publisher98 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive when you run Microsoft Clip Gallery, the previews for Pub98bal.cag, Pub98cor.cag, and Pub98jww.cag will not appear. To see the previews again, exit Microsoft Clip Gallery, insert the Publisher 98 compact disc into the CD-ROM drive and restart Microsoft Clip Gallery.
