PRJ: Unexpected Value in Actual Overtime Cost and Overtime Cost (178700)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q178700

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, you may find that the Overtime Cost and Actual Overtime Cost fields equal zero when they should contain a cost. In addition, you may find that the Cost for a task does not include Overtime Cost when it should.

For example, if a resource that is assigned an Overtime Rate is assigned to a task, when the task is set to 100% complete, the Overtime Rate is not included in the Cost, Overtime Cost, or Actual Overtime Cost field.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the option Actual Costs Are Always Calculated by Microsoft Project is turned off and the task is set to 100% complete or when Actual Overtime Work is entered for a task.

WORKAROUND

The only way to avoid this behavior is to turn on the option Actual Costs Are Always Calculated by Microsoft Project, remove the Actual Overtime Cost, and then reassign the Actual Overtime Cost to the task.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
