XL98: Copying Shapes Cancels Selection of Shape (178674)

SYMPTOMS

After you copy a shape to another worksheet in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the shape you copied may no longer be selected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • You draw a shape on a worksheet. -and-

  • You select the cells around the shape and copy them. -and-

  • You select the shape. -and-

  • You then paste the cells you copied to another worksheet.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Select the shape.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  3. Switch to the worksheet on which you want to paste the shape.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
NOTE: This method copies only the shape, not the cells around the shape.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
