SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, a field in a table, report, or view may display pound signs (#######) throughout the field.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the width of a number or date field is too narrow to display the data in the field.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the method appropriate for your situation.

Field Is in a Table

If the field is in a table, you can adjust the width of the field by double-clicking the column title and then clicking Best Fit.

Field Is in a Timescale

If the field is in the timescale portion of the Resource Usage or Task Usage views (Project 98 only), you can adjust the width of the field by following these steps:

  1. Click Timescale on the Format menu.
  2. On the Timescale tab, replace the number in the Enlarge box with a larger number.

NOTE: The Enlarge box accepts values from 25 through 900 percent.
  3. Click OK.

Field Is in a Crosstab Report

If the field is in a Crosstab report, you can adjust the width of the field by following these steps:

  1. Click Reports on the View menu.
  2. In the Reports dialog box, double-click Custom.
  3. In the Reports list, click Crosstab and then click Edit.
  4. Click the Details tab. In the Date Format list, click to select a wider date format.
  5. Click OK. Click Close, and then click Cancel.
