PRJ: Timescale in New Project Does Not Show Current Date (177522)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you create a new file, the timescale portion of a view may not display the current date.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when a view with a timescale, such as the Gantt Chart, has been copied into the global template. In the timescale, the view shows the same date that it was originally showing when it was copied, instead of the current date.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior in the current file, press CTRL+ALT+HOME to move the timescale back to the current date, and then save the file.

To resolve this behavior in all new files, follow these steps:

NOTE: This procedure overwrites the view in the Global template. Any prior modifications made to the view are lost, and the view will use all default options.

  1. On the File menu, click Open.
  2. Open the file named Backup.mpt.

    NOTE: For Project 98, the default location for Backup.mpt is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. For Project 4.1, the default location is c:\Microsoft Office\Winproj. For Project 4.0, the default location is c:\Winproj.
  3. In the Organizer dialog box, click to select the view that you want to copy on the side that reads "Backup.mpt." Click Copy.
  4. Click Yes to replace the view in the Global template.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
