BackOffice Compact Disc Is Not Bootable (177461)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.0

This article was previously published under Q177461

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft BackOffice 2.5 and 4.0 compact discs are not bootable. This is different behavior from the native Windows NT Server and Workstation compact discs.

RESOLUTION

To install Windows NT, you must either use the three setup disks that are included with BackOffice or run one of the following commands from a command prompt at the I386 directory;

winnt /b

WINNT32 /b if doing an upgrade

MORE INFORMATION

It was decided not to make the Windows NT 4.0 BackOffice compact disc bootable because of the many restarts required during the installation of all the BackOffice components. If the BackOffice compact disc was left in the CD-ROM drive, Windows NT would attempt to install after each restart.
