PRJ98: Information Missing When Printing a Project Using a Pool (176294)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q176294

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you print or print preview a resource view or report that uses time-scaled data (such as the Resource Usage view, Crosstab report, and so on) when sharing a Resource Pool file, you may not get all of the information within the assignment dates of your resources.

CAUSE

A Microsoft Project file determines its print range for time-scaled data based on tasks in the project, not on resource assignment information.

WORKAROUND

To workaround this behavior, enter the start date and the finish date of the range of timescale in the resource view or report that you want to print in the Print dialog box. To enter dates in the Print dialog box, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. In the Print dialog box, under Timescale, click to select Dates From.
  3. Enter the appropriate dates in the Dates From And To box.
  4. Make sure that the Print Left Column Of Pages Only box is not selected.
To determine the earliest Start Date and the latest Finish Date for a Resource Assignment that appears in the Resource Usage view, follow these steps.

For the earliest Start Date

  1. On the Project menu, point to Sort, and then click Sort By.
  2. In the Sort dialog box, under Sort By, select Start, and then click to select Ascending.
  3. Near the bottom of the Sort dialog box, click to clear the Sort Resources By Project check box, and then click the Sort button.
  4. Select the first task listed and on the Project menu, click Assignment Information.
  5. On the General tab, make note of Start date of that assignment, and click Cancel.

For the latest Finish Date

  1. On the Project menu, point to Sort, and then click Sort By.
  2. In the Sort dialog box, under Sort By, select Finish, and then click Descending.
  3. Near the bottom of the Sort dialog box, click to clear the Sort Resources By Project check box, and then click the Sort button.
  4. Select the first task listed and on the Project menu, click Assignment Information.
  5. On the General tab, make note of Finish date of that assignment, and click Cancel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
