This article was previously published under Q176133 SYMPTOMS
In Word 6.x or 7.x, when you open a document created in Word 97 using the
Contemporary Memo template, one of the following will occur:
- The drawing object is missing.
-or-
- A rectangle is displayed in place of the drawing object.
NOTE: The drawing object is a light gray circle with a white vertical bar.
CAUSE
This functionality is by design. Earlier versions of Word do not include
AutoShapes. Thus, the AutoShape objects are not converted when you do any
of the following:
- Save a Word 97 file in Word 6.0/95 format.
-or-
- Save the file in Rich Text Format (*.RTF).
-or-
- Open the Word 97 document in Word 6.0 or 7.0 using the Word 97
converter.
