XL98: Message Box Function Has a Title Bar (175973)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the MsgBox function, the message box has a title bar. This behavior is different than in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

The MsgBox function allows you to change the default title of "Microsoft Excel." The title argument of this function is used to set a title for a message box. The following example displays a message box with a title of "Hello."

  1. Open a new workbook.
  2. Start the Visual Basic Editor (press OPTION+F11).
  3. On the Insert Menu, click Module.
  4. Type the following code in the new module: 
          Sub ChangeTitleBar()
         msgPrompt = "Click OK to continue."
         msgTitle = "Hello"
         MsgBox Prompt:=msgPrompt, Title:=msgTitle
      End Sub
  5. On the Tools menu, click Macros.
  6. Click "ChangeTitleBar," and then click Run.

    Notice the word "Hello" is in the title bar.
  7. Click OK.
