PRJ98: Button Customization Not Recorded by Macro Recorder (174987)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q174987 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you attempt to record the commands for customizing
a toolbar button in a Visual Basic for Applications macro, the code is not
recorded. For example, a change to the name, description, or command associated
with a toolbar button will not be recorded.
CAUSE
The macro recorder does not record customization of a toolbar button.
WORKAROUND
Microsoft provides examples of Visual Basic for Applications procedures
for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied,
including, but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability
and/or fitness for a particular purpose. The Visual Basic procedures in
this article are provided 'as is' and Microsoft does not guarantee that
they can be used in all situations. While Microsoft Support professionals can
help explain the functionality of a particular macro, they will not
modify these examples to provide added functionality, nor will they help
you construct macros to meet your specific needs. If you have limited
programming experience, you may want to consult one of the Microsoft
Solution Providers. Solution Providers offer a wide range of fee-based
services, including creating custom macros. For more information about
Microsoft Solution Providers, call Microsoft Customer Information Service
at (800) 426-9400.
To work around this problem and change a toolbar button by using Visual Basic
for Applications, enter the code in the Visual Basic Editor rather than
recording the code. To start the Visual Basic Editor, point to Macro on the
Tools menu, and then click Visual Basic Editor. The following example code sets
the command, caption, and description of the toolbar button to FileClose:
Sub Main()
CommandBars(2).Controls(1).Parameter = "FileClose"
CommandBars(2).Controls(1).Caption = "FileClose"
CommandBars(2).Controls(1).DescriptionText = "FileClose"
End Sub
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
