SYMPTOMS

When you establish a NetMeeting conference in which both participants are capable of sending audio and video, you may be unable to exchange audio and video. If you are using NetMeeting 2.x, you may be able to exchange audio and video when you point to Switch Audio And Video on the Tools menu, and then click the participant with whom you are conferencing.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Internet service provider (ISP) that either participant is using does not support Internet Protocol (IP) header compression.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, disable IP header compression in the Dial-Up Networking connection you use to connect to your ISP. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. In Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Dial-Up Networking. In Windows 98, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications and then click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. Right-click the dial-up connection you use to connect to your ISP, and then click Properties.
  3. Click Server Type, and then click TCP/IP Settings.
  4. Click the Use IP Header Compression check box to clear it, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

MORE INFORMATION

You may also experience poor audio and video quality, problems connecting to an Internet Locator Server (ILS) directory server, and problems listing the ILS directory.
