XFOR: NNTP: Feed Postings Rejected Due to Missing Header (173931)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Commercial Internet System 1.0
This article was previously published under Q173931 SYMPTOMS
The Internet News Service (INS) may fail to post feeds to hub net
news servers such as UUNET.
CAUSE
Hub net news servers, such as UUNET, now reject post feeds that
do not include the NNTP-Posting-Host header. INS 1.0 does not
include the NNTP-Posting-Host header.
RESOLUTION
Apply the fix referenced below, or wait for the next Service Pack.
With the fix applied, the Nntpsvc.dll file is modified to include
the NNTP-Posting-Host header. After you apply the fix, edit the
following registry value to enable the NNTP-Posting-Host header:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Nntpsvc\Parameters\
EnableNNTPPostingHost
Type: Reg_DWORD
Values: 0, 1
NOTE: Must be set to 1 to force the server to generate NNTP
Posting Host headers.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial
Internet System version 1.0.
A supported fix is now available, but has not been not fully regression
tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific
problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem,
Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains
this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
