PRJ: Shortcut to Earlier Version Not Removed During Setup (173262)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q173262

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade from an earlier version of Microsoft Project, the Microsoft Project Setup program updates the core files of the program but does not delete the shortcuts and, in some cases, the program groups used by the earlier version of Microsoft Project. For example, if you upgraded from Microsoft Project 95, the shortcuts to Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Project Setup program remain in the program folder, but the shortcuts are removed from the Start menu. (Typically, the program folder is the MSOffice\WinProj folder.)

If you upgraded from Microsoft Project 4.0, the shortcuts and the program group are not deleted. In Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0, the shortcuts remain on the Start menu. In Windows NT 3.51, the program group remains in Program Manager.

RESOLUTION

Delete the shortcuts for the earlier versions of Microsoft Project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
