XL97: Hang While Editing Formula Directly in a Cell (169970)

If you delete part of a formula while editing it directly in a cell,
Microsoft Excel may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
The problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
- You edit a formula directly in a cell.
-and-
- You press DELETE while the insertion point is at the beginning of the
formula.
-and-
- You make another change to the formula after deleting the equal sign.
WORKAROUND
To delete part of a formula that begins with the equal sign, edit the
formula in the formula bar instead of directly in the cell.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
