SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Plus! For Kids, Protect It!, you may receive the following or a similar error message when you log on as a new user or start a program from the Windows 95 or Windows 98 desktop:
A Fatal Exception has occurred at 0028-C0268F8A in VXD VCOMM(04)+00000532.
This error message can occur when you are using either restricted or unrestricted user profiles.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have the Hewlett Packard (HP) DeskJet 682 printer driver installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the HP DeskJet 682 printer driver from your computer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP DeskJet 682 printer, and then click Delete.
After you remove the HP DeskJet 682 printer driver from your computer, Protect It! should run properly.
