Chat Room Properties

The creator of the chat room is automatically granted host (administrator) rights. In Microsoft Chat versions 2.0 and 2.1, host rights are indicated by the "@" character preceding the user's nickname in the member list box. In Microsoft Chat version 2.5, host rights are indicated by a gavel preceding the user's nickname in the member list box.

The host can specify the following properties for the chat room.

Auditorium:

When this option is selected, messages from room members go only to the room host, and messages from the host go to everyone in the room.

Moderated:

When this option is selected, only the room host and speakers that the host designates can send messages. All other room members are spectators.

SetTopic Anyone:

When this option is selected, any room member can set the room's topic.

Invite Only:

When this option is selected, an invitation is required for someone to be able to enter the room. An invitation is a special message sent by a room host asking someone to enter a chat room.

Hidden:

When this option is selected, the chat room does not appear in the chat room list when you click Room List on the Room menu.

Private:

When this option is selected, information about members inside the room is not available to people outside the room.

No Whispers:

When this option is selected, whispers cannot be sent in the room. Whispers are messages that can be seen only by the person sending the message and the person receiving it.
