To Convert a Works for Windows Database to Excel 97

  1. Open the database in Works for Windows.
  2. On the File menu click Save As.
  3. Under Save File Format, click dBASE IV.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Start Excel 97.
  6. On the File menu, click Open.
  7. Under Files of Type, click dBase Files.
  8. Locate the file you exported from Works and click Open.
NOTE: When you save in dBASE format, field names will be truncated at 10 characters, so ensure the first 10 characters of each field name are unique.

To Convert an Excel 97 Worksheet to a Works for Windows Database

  1. Open the worksheet in Excel 97.
  2. On the File menu click Save As.
  3. Under Save As Type, click DBF 4(dBASE IV).
  4. Click Save.
  5. Start Works for Windows.
  6. Works version 4.0, 4.0a, 4.5 and 4.5a:

    On the Works Task Launcher click the Existing Documents tab then click Open a document not listed here.

    Works for Windows version 3.0x:

    In the Startup window click Open An Existing Document.

  7. Under Files Of Type click dBASE (*.dbf).
  8. Locate your document then click Open or OK.
NOTE: The document will open into a Works database in Form view. To change the view, click List on the View menu.
