This article was previously published under Q161600 SYMPTOMS
With some SCSI controllers and tape drives that do not support hardware
compression, SQL Server 6.5 dump and load functions with tape may be slower
than prior versions of SQL Server on computers running Windows NT 4.0.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, try one of the following:
- Put the tape drive on a different SCSI adapter.
- Dump to disk files rather than to tape.
- Use a tape drive that supports hardware compression.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server
version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
