The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q161554

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Save As HTML Wizard, and type a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that contains a backslash (\) character rather than a forward slash (/) character, the hyperlink does not work in the finished HTML code.

CAUSE

The Save As HTML Wizard, does not check the syntax of anything you type. Similarly, if you type your email address incorrectly, the hyperlink to send you email does not work either.

RESOLUTION

When you type the URL of your Web page, type it exactly, by using the backslash character rather than the forward slash character.

MORE INFORMATION

If you manually enter a URL in Microsoft Internet Explorer or many other Web browsers, the browser automatically fixes incorrect slash characters For example, if you type:

http:\\www.example.com

Internet Explorer automatically changes this to:

http://www.example.com
