TMGR: Can't Select Date If Time Separator Is Space (161553)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q161553

SYMPTOMS

If the Windows Time Separator is a space character, and if the Microsoft Team Manager "Show time of day in date fields" option is selected, then you cannot select dates from drop-down calendar fields, such as Deadline, unless the field already contains a date.

For example, if the current date and time is 12/29/96 1:35 PM, and you select the date 1/8/97 from the Deadline field drop-down calendar for a task that currently has no Deadline, you may receive the following error message:
"1/8/97 1 35 PM" is not a valid date or time.

Please type a date in the correct format: for example, "12/29/96 1 35 PM" or "December 29, 1996 1 35 PM". Or enter a time in a format that matches your system settings.

All dates must be between "1/1/84" and "12/31/50".

WORKAROUND

Method 1

Change the Windows Time Separator to something other than a space character. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click the Regional Settings icon, and then click the Time tab.
  3. Enter a non-space character, such as a colon, for the Time Separator, and click OK. Close Control Panel.

Method 2

Click to clear the "Show time of day in date fields" check box before you select dates from drop-down calendar fields. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
  2. If the "Show time of day in date fields" check box is selected, click to clear it, and then click OK.
  3. In the task table, click the desired date field and use the drop-down calendar field to select a date.
  4. If you want to display the time of day again, repeat step 1, and click to select the "Show time of day in date fields" check box.

Method 3

Instead of using the date field calendar drop-down list, enter a date manually without a time of day. Once a date is in the field, you can make changes later by using the calendar drop-down list.

Note that if the field is blank, and you enter both a date and time of day using a space for the time separator, you may receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
