Microsoft(R) Office 97 Starts Here Readme.txt 11/15/96

Microsoft Office 97 Starts Here(c) (Starts Here) is an interactive,
multimedia, training tool that provides just-in-time training for
Microsoft Office 97 with audio and video demonstrations, step-by-step
sequences using real Office applications, and hundreds of key questions
to assess how much you've learned. Starts Here helps upgraders and new
users master the next generation of Microsoft Office as quickly and
easily as possible.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------

A multimedia PC with a 486/33DX or higher processor; Microsoft Windows 95
(8 MB RAM) or Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 (16 MB RAM); Microsoft
Office 97 Standard or Professional Editions; 13 MB of available hard disk
space; double-speed CD-ROM drive; super-VGA display with 256 colors or
better; Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device; and a
Windows-compatible sound board and headphones or speakers.

Note: Up to 16.5MB of hard disk space may be temporarily required during
Setup. The files that take up this extra space will be deleted when Setup
is complete and your computer is restarted. You may run the program
without Office 97 Installed, but you will not be able to complete the
lessons because the sample documents will not be accessible.

OFFICE INSTALLATION TIPS:
-------------------------

Starts Here assumes that Microsoft Office 97 is properly installed on
your computer. Here are some things to check to ensure that Starts Here
will function properly:

All options available in the Office 97 Typical Install should be checked
during the Office 97 Setup.

Outlook should be set up with at least one user profile.
Word should have the minimal clipart installed.

Office 97 offers a macro-virus protection tool when opening files. When
opening Starts Here sample files, click the Enable Macros button in this
dialog box.

If you need to print the lessons/documents, you must be connected to a
printer. You may notice improper page layout on some dot matrix printers.

PLAYING LESSON STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO
---------------------------------

Starts Here offers videos of the lesson steps within each lesson. Users
can watch the entire video of a lesson, or they can watch the video one
step at a time. To watch the lesson video one step at a time,

1. Move to the step whose video you would like to view.
2. Click the video button on the step window.

WINDOWS NT USERS:
-----------------

Microsoft Office 97 Starts Here requires the account logged on to Windows
NT to have write access to the Starts Here installation folder. If the
user does not have write access, Starts Here will still function, but
will ask the user to specify an alternative location in which to save
the user profile.

BANYAN VINES CLIENT FOR NT4.0 USERS:
------------------------------------

Network installations may fail due to a problem resolving UNC path names

1. Problem:

Setup does not ask to install Active Movie.
Intro & lesson videos will not play.

Workaround:

The Active Movie components of Starts Here may not be installed.
If setup does not ask to install Active Movie, this portion of setup can
be completed manually using the following steps:

In Explorer or from the command prompt, open the network path to the
Starts Here setup location.

Open the folder \System

Run Amovie.exe

This will complete the Active movie portion of setup.

2. Problem:

Error message on startup: "Either the CD-ROM or your Network is not
available"

The Registry path by default, stores the Media Path as a UNC
\\server\share.

The Banyan client for NT4.0 may be unable to resolve this.

Workaround:

Map a drive letter to the UNC \\server\share, from the Start Menu,
run Regedit open this pathway:

"My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Office
97 Starts Here"

Double Click on "MediaPath"
in the "Value Data" field substitute the new drive letter for the
\\server\share portion of the entry.
