TMGR: Performance Goal Ratings Can't Be Reset in Team Manager (161315)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q161315
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the Windows folder.

SYMPTOMS

You have adjusted the performance goal ratings but want to set them back to the original defaults. However, there isn't a mechanism for doing this in Microsoft Team Manager.

CAUSE

The performance goal ratings are global to all team files. You can modify any of the nine different ratings, but you cannot reset the ratings to their original values.

WORKAROUND

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry.

If you need to reset the performance goal ratings the their original values, you can use the Windows registry editor to remove the following registry key value:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Team
        Manager\1.0\Internal\GoalRatings

To modify the registry, follow these steps:

  1. Quit all programs.
  2. In Windows 95 or Windows NT, click the Start button, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Go to the following registry key:
          HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Team Manager\1.0\Internal

NOTE: On the Status bar, the following is displayed:
          My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Team
             Manager\1.0\Internal

  5. Click the GoalRatings value.
  6. Click Delete on the Edit menu.
  7. Close the registry.
NOTE: You need to restart Microsoft Team Manager to enable it to read the new registry settings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
