OFF97: Low Memory Message When Recording in Camcorder (161119)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q161119 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to record a movie using Microsoft Camcorder 97, you may
receive the following error message:
There may not be enough memory available (0K) to record this movie.
Close other programs to make more memory available. If the problem
persists, lower the screen resolution or the number of colors you
monitor shows. Record the movie now?
CAUSE
Microsoft Camcorder requires a minimum amount of random access memory (RAM)
to guarantee that it completely captures the contents on the screen. If the
amount of RAM is below the minimum required amount, the alert message
appears. This message is only a warning and should not be misinterpreted as
a system or program error. Despite receiving the message you can continue
recording. In most cases Camcorder continues to record and play back every
event as expected.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, reduce the screen resolution and color depth.
To avoid the alert, Microsoft recommends that you close all programs, start
Camcorder, and then open the programs as you need them. After clicking Yes
in the message dialog box, the alert message does not appear again in the
current session of Camcorder.
Changing Screen Resolution and Color Depth- On the Start Menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon and click the Settings tab.
- To reduce the screen resolution, move the slider to the left under
Desktop Area.
- To change the color depth, click a lower color value, such as 256 or 16,
in the Color Palette list.
- Click OK. (depending on your type of video card, you may be prompted
to restart the computer.)
