TMGR: Changing Width of Timesheet Columns (159807)

SUMMARY

When you drag the width of either the upper or lower timescale, you increase or decrease the timescale-scaling factor. However, if you drag a timescale column, the enlarge factor is unaffected. Instead, the widths of all existing displayed timescale columns are re-proportioned to fit in the same total width.

MORE INFORMATION

A timescale column width, by default, is a function of the number of timescale columns and the width of the lower timescale column (upper if lower is not displayed).

The easiest way to increase the width of all timescale columns is to drag the width of the lower timescale. By doing this, Microsoft Team Manager automatically changes the timescale-scaling factor and also re-proportions the widths of the timescale columns.

To better understand how this works, consider the following example:

  1. Create a new team file.
  2. Click the Tasks tab and change to the Actual Work view.
  3. Enter a new task, T1.
  4. On the Format menu, click Add/Remove Timesheet Columns.
  5. In the Add/Remove Timesheet Columns dialog box, under Available Fields, select Actual Cost, and then click the Add button to add Actual Cost to the timescale. Click OK.
  6. Click in the Actual Cost cell for task T1.
  7. On the Format menu, click Column. Note that the column width is 60.
  8. Click Cancel. Click the Actual Work cell for task T1.
  9. On the Format menu, click Column. Note that the column width is 64. The total width for these two columns is 128.
  10. Click Cancel. Drag the width of the Actual Cost column to make it larger.
  11. Repeat steps 6 - 9 and note the new widths of the columns.
The two timescale columns have new widths, but the sum of the widths is still 128. To increase all timescale columns, drag the width of the lower timescale.
