SYMPTOMS

Text placed inside a text box is truncated or is missing when you view your document in online layout view.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

Method 1: Resize the text box using the following steps:
  1. Select the text box.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text Box, and then click the Size tab.
  3. In the Format Text Box dialog box, under Size and Rotate, change the Height and Width measurements, and then click OK.

NOTE: You may need to repeat steps a through c several times before you achieve the desired result.
Method 2: Convert the text box to a frame using the following steps:
  1. Select the text box.
  2. On the Format menu, click Text Box, and then click the Text Box tab.
  3. Click the Convert To Frame button. In the message box warning you that formatting may be lost when you convert the drawing object, click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Word 97 provides two type of containers for text: text boxes and frames.

A text box is static: Its size does not change as you type additional text inside the text box. Instead, the text wraps below the bottom of the text box. The text below the bottom of the text box is not printed or displayed in online layout view.

A frame is dynamic. In other words, the frame automatically grows to accommodate additional text that you type inside the frame.
