Cannot Use SerialKey Device After Logging on as Different User (158678)

SYMPTOMS

If you click Shut Down on the Start menu and then click "Close all programs and log on as a different user" with support for SerialKey devices enabled, your SerialKey device may not function properly.

RESOLUTION

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:
  • In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click "Restart the computer" instead of "Close all programs and log on as a different user."
  • Enable support for SerialKey devices after you log on as a different user. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. In Control Panel, double-click Accessibility Options.
    2. Click the General tab.
    3. Click the Support SerialKey Devices check box to clear it.
    4. Click Apply.
    5. Click the Support SerialKey Devices check box to select it.
    6. Click OK.
    Or, use the following steps to enable support for SerialKey devices with the keyboard after logging on as a different user:

    1. Press CTRL+ESC, press S, and then press ENTER to open Control Panel.
    2. Use the ARROW keys to select Accessibility Options, and then press ENTER.
    3. Press CTRL+TAB until the General tab is selected.
    4. Press ALT+U to clear the Support SerialKey Devices check box.
    5. Press ALT+A to apply the changes.
    6. Press ALT+U to select the Support SerialKey Devices check box.
    7. Press the TAB key until OK is selected, and then press ENTER.
