SYMPTOMS

When you click Publish to Web or Publisher Web Site to Folder on the File menu, you may receive the following error message:
Publisher cannot create your online document.

CAUSE

This error message occurs if your GIF import/export filter (Gifimp32.flt) is missing, outdated, or corrupted. It may also occur if the Windows Registry entries for the GIF import/export filter are missing or corrupted.

RESOLUTION

You can determine whether the problem is caused by the filter file, Gifimp32.flt, or by a problem with the Windows Registry by doing the following:
  1. In Publisher, click Create New Publication on the File menu.
  2. In the Publisher startup dialog box, click the Blank Page tab and then click the Web Page icon. Click OK.
  3. Draw a single text frame and type a few words into it.
  4. On the File menu, click Preview Web Site.
If you do not receive the error, replace the Gifimp32.flt file. If you do receive the error, remove the Registry entries for the GIF filter and reinstall Publisher.

To Replace Gifimp32.flt

  1. Rename the file Gifimp32.flt. By default, this file is located in the folder:
          C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt

  2. If you have Publisher 97 on CD-ROM, you can copy this file from the following folder:
          D:\Shared\Grphflt

assuming that D: is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive. If you have Publisher 97 on disk, you can replace this file by running Publisher Setup and clicking the Reinstall button in the Maintenance Mode Setup dialog box.
