WINDOWS
SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Picture It! has two projects that use the Send Via Email command.
- The Slide Show wizard (step 6).
- The E-mail Postcard wizard (version 2.0 only) (step 9).
In some cases this command is unavailable. In other cases the command may
start a mail tool you don't normally use and the process may fail with an
error, or because the mail message is never sent.
CAUSE
If the Send Via Email command is unavailable, there is no mail server on
Windows 95 that is compliant with MAPI (the Messaging Application Programming
Interface).
If the Send Via Email command fails, it is usually because a MAPI-compliant
mail tool is present but it is not setup for use. Or, your Internet service
provider does not give you access to Internet mail (i.e. you cannot send mail
directly to an address with this format, myname@business.com).
RESOLUTION
The system requirements for the Send Via Email command in are the same as for
the Send command on the File menu in many Windows applications.
To test the Send command using Microsoft Write, do the following:
- Click Start button, and then click Run.
- Type write and click OK.
- On the File menu, click Send.
If your mail client launches and you are able to send a file via email,
the Send Via Email command in Picture It! should work also. If Microsoft Write
can send and Picture It! can't, call Picture It! technical support.
If sending a file from Microsoft Write fails, contact the technical support
organization for your email tool and say something like this:
"I'd like to use Microsoft's File Send feature without having to attach
the files to email myself. Is there a way to make my email service accept
MAPI calls so that the File Send command in Microsoft Write will launch
my email editor?"
