NetMeeting can use a variety of addressing schemes to connect. This article describes how to create a hyperlink based on a User Location Service server (ULS) or Internet Locator Server (ILS) directory server address rather than a static IP address because most IP addresses are dynamically assigned.

NetMeeting version 1.0

  1. Create a SpeedDial setting to your own ULS and e-mail address:

    1. On the Call menu, click Create SpeedDial.
    2. In the Calling Information section, verify that User Location Service is selected in the I would like to be called using box. Verify that the correct address is listed in the At this address box. The address should be your ULS and e-mail address, configured as uls server name/e-mail address, where uls server name is your uls server name, and e-mail address is the appropriate e-mail address.
    3. Click Save On The Desktop, and then click OK.
  2. Copy the file to the folder containing your Web home page, and then create a link to this file from your home page.

NetMeeting versions 2.x, 3.0, and 3.01

  1. Create a SpeedDial setting to your own ULS and e-mail address:

    1. On the Call menu, click Create SpeedDial.
    2. In the Address box, verify that the address is your ULS and e-mail address, configured as uls server name/e-mail address, where uls server name is your uls server name, and e-mail address is the appropriate e-mail address.
    3. In the Call Using box, click Directory.
    4. In the After creating the SpeedDial section, click Save on The Desktop, and then click OK.
  2. Copy the file to the folder containing your Web home page, and then create a link to this file from your home page.
When someone clicks the link on your home page, NetMeeting is automatically started (if it is not already running) on his or her computer. NetMeeting attempts to connect to your computer using the SpeedDial information. Because the addressing information is based on ULS information, you must be logged in to the ULS server.

For NetMeeting versions 2.0 and higher, the callto command can be used with Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher. You can use any of the following formats to create a hyperlink on your Web page:
