OFF97: Change in Default Setup Location for MS Office (156456)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q156456

SUMMARY

The default destination setup folder for Microsoft Office 97 is different than earlier versions of Microsoft Office. By default, the destination folder for Office 97 is the following folder:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office

where C: is the drive where you installed Microsoft Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, the Setup program installs Office 97 in a folder that is not a direct subfolder of the root directory. This behavior is different than earlier versions of Office, which are installed in the C:\Microsoft Office folder.

The Setup program for Office 97 also installs all the individual Office program files (executable files) in the following folder:
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

The Setup program no longer installs the program files in separate folders within the Office folder. This change in directory structure is designed to simplify maintaining the Office 97 files.

NOTE: You can customize the destination folder in which Setup installs Office 97, but some components are still installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office folder.
