SUMMARY

The Microsoft Team Manager OLE viewer displays a limited amount of object data. For example, when a Microsoft Word document is inserted as an object, the OLE viewer displays only the first page.

MORE INFORMATION

Objects can only be pasted or inserted into custom OLE object fields in a task table. A custom OLE object field can be inserted in a task table as follows:

  1. On the Insert menu, click Column, and then click Custom Fields.
  2. To create a new custom OLE object field, click Add, and from the Type list, select OLE Object, enter a name for the field, and then click OK.
  3. Select the custom OLE object field you want from the Custom Fields list, click Close, and then click OK.
  4. The new column is inserted to the left of the previously selected one. To reposition it, on the Insert menu, click Column, and then Add/Remove Columns. Select the field from the Show These fields list, and use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to reposition it.
To attach a Microsoft Word document object to a non-blank task, copy text from the document, and paste it into the OLE object field of the task. Alternatively, select the OLE object field for the task, and on the Insert menu, click Object to bring up the standard Windows Insert Object dialog box.

The OLE object field contains a text description of the kind of object that has been attached to a task. For example, the field contains the word "Document" if a Microsoft Word document is attached, or the word "Spreadsheet" if a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet is attached. To open the OLE viewer, double-click the entry in the OLE object field. The OLE viewer displays a picture that represents the object, but there is a limited amount of information included in the picture, depending on the source application. For a Microsoft Word document object, only the first page is displayed.

WORKAROUND

To view an entire document object, double-click the picture in the OLE viewer. This opens the document in Microsoft Word, where it can be viewed or edited in its entirety. When finished viewing or editing the document, on the File menu in Microsoft Word, click "Close and Return to ...". Note that this leaves Microsoft Word running. To quit Microsoft Word and return to Microsoft Team Manager instead, on the File menu in Microsoft Word, click Exit.
