SYMPTOMS

When you use ClipArt Gallery, version 2.0, and click Add Pictures in the Organize ClipArt dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
The ClipArt Gallery could not find any graphics filters installed. You can install graphics filters by running Setup for Microsoft Applications again.
When you use Draw version 1.01 and click Import Picture on the File menu, you may receive the following error:
Sorry, there is an error in the [Graphic Import filters] section of the registry. There are no valid Graphic Import Filters installed. Only the built-in filters are available.
When you click OK, you are limited to Windows Metafile (*.wmf) and Bitmap (*.bmp) files.

RESOLUTION

Either of these messages may be caused by missing or improperly registered filter files installed during a complete installation of Works 4.0, 4.5, or 4.5a. Reinstalling Works will correct this problem.

If the files are installed and you are receiving the above error, the Windows 95 Registry contains incorrect entries. If the files are found, you will need to run Setup to remove the Works program files and filters prior to reinstalling them. Before reinstalling Works, follow the steps below to verify the files were installed.

Search for Files

To verify the filters have been installed, do the following:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.

NOTE: These instructions assume you have installed Works into the default locations, and that your hard drive is labeled C.
  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains the filters. By default they are installed to the C:\Program Files\ Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt folder.
  3. Note if any of the following files are listed in the folder:
       Bmpimp32.flt Cgmimp32 .flt Epsimp32.flt
       Msbmp32.dll Mspcd32.dll Mspcx32.dll
       Mstiff32.dll Pcdimp32.flt Pcximp32.flt
       Tiffim32.flt Wmfimp32.flt Wpgexp32.flt
       Wpgimp32.flt

  4. Choose the step below that matches the results from your search in step 3.

If the Files Are Found

Run Setup to remove and reinstall the graphics filters.

  1. Close all running programs.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Works, and then click Microsoft Works Setup.
  3. Click Add/Remove.
  4. In the Add/Remove dialog box, clear the box labeled Program Files, and then click Yes to verify that you want to remove this component.
  5. Clear the box labeled Graphics Filters (you may need to scroll down).
  6. Click Continue and then click Remove All to verify that you want to remove the shared files.
  7. Restart the computer and follow the steps in the next section to reinstall the files.

If The Files Are Not Found

To reinstall the Works files, do the following:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Works, and then click Microsoft Works Setup.
  2. Click Add/Remove.
  3. In the Add/Remove dialog box, check the box labeled Graphics Filters (you may need to scroll down to see them listed. If you removed the program files in the above section, check the box labeled Program Files).
  4. Click Continue.
You should now be able to add clipart to the ClipArt Gallery or import the following types of graphics via Microsoft Draw into your document:

Computer Graphics Metafile (*.cgm)
Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps)
Kodak Photo CD (*.pcd)
PC Paintbrush (*.pcx)
Tagged Image Format (*.tif)
Windows Bitmap (*.dib)
