XCLN: Cannot Choose Cancel If Server Is Not Available (147488)

When you start the Microsoft Exchange client and the Microsoft Exchange
Server is down or not available, you receive a dialog box with the
following message:
Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable.
You can retry connecting to the server using the network,
or work offline and connect using dial-up networking.
Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft
Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator
if this condition persists.
The only buttons available in this dialog box are Retry, Work Offline, and
Help. However, there is no way to cancel the startup of the client.
RESOLUTION
You can do one of the following:
- Wait until the Microsoft Exchange server is available, and then click
Retry to connect to the server.
-or-
- Click Work Offline.
If your personal folder is located only on the server, click OK to the
error stating that the set of folders could not be opened. Then close the
Microsoft Exchange client and wait for the Microsoft Exchange server to be
available before starting the client again.
If you have offline folders or personal folders on your local hard drive,
then you can work while not connected to the server, but you must exit and
start the client again when the server is available in order for any
messages to be delivered.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange version
4.0 Windows NT and Windows 95 clients. We are researching this problem and
will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
