The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 4.5
  • Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0 4.0a

This article was previously published under Q137711

SYMPTOMS

When you create, preview, or print an envelope or label through the TaskWizards feature of Works, you may receive the following error messages:

  • No default printer selected.

  • Out of memory.

  • Cannot complete the label (envelope). There was a problem inserting new layout data into the label (envelope). Close other documents or applications, and then try again.

CAUSE

The Works TaskWizard creates labels and envelopes in Page Layout view. If no printer is selected as a default, Works is unable to work in Page Layout, causing the Envelope and Label TaskWizards to fail.

RESOLUTION

A default printer must be designated for the Envelope Or Labels TaskWizard to function correctly.

Setting Up a Default Printer

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. If no printers are listed, double-click the Add Printer icon, and then run the Add Printer Wizard to install a printer. If a printer is listed, go to step 3.
  3. With your right mouse button, click the printer icon, and then click Set As Default.

NOTE: If you just finished adding the printer, it should already be set as the default.
