PRJ4: Printing Resource Information from Consolidated Projects (137547)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a resource view or report that uses time-scaled data (that is, Resource Usage, Crosstab report, and so on), the report may contain information that does not correspond with the time frame of your assigned resources within a consolidated project.

CAUSE

When you consolidate projects and you choose the Combine Resource Pools command, a new common resource pool file may be created. As a new file, the resource pool's start date is set equal to the current date on your computer; when you print a report, by default, the job goes from the earliest through the latest project dates.

For example, if the current date is 12/31/95, and you're consolidating two projects whose start and finish dates are 1/1/95 and you choose to combine resource pools, then the new resource pool's start date gets set to 12/31/95. Therefore, when the resource usage view is printed, by default, Microsoft Project prints the information for the days between 1/1/95 and 12/31/95.

RESOLUTION

To prevent unnecessary resource information from being printed when a resource pool is used in a project consolidation, do the following:

On the Window menu, click New Window and click the file that represents your resource pool file; the name may be similar to "Pool1.mpp." click OK.
On the File menu, click Summary Info (Project Info in version 4.1).
Change the Start date to be the earliest date of any of your consolidated projects. click OK.
