Works: Envelope Print Problem with DeskJet 540 in Windows 95 (136917)

SYMPTOMS

When you print envelopes on an HP DeskJet 540 printer using the Windows 95 DeskJet 540 driver, the printed text is upside down or rotated.

RESOLUTION

To properly print envelopes to a DeskJet 540, insert the envelopes rotated 180 degrees from the diagram shown on the DeskJet sheet feeder. You should insert the envelopes with the flap on top, pointing to the right.

If this does not resolve the problem, you can use the HP DeskJet 550c driver that ships with Windows 95. If you are using the 550c driver emulation, you should insert the envelope as shown on the diagram on the DeskJet 540 sheet feeder (with the flap pointing to the left.)

NOTE: To make sure that envelopes are created in the correct orientation, set the DeskJet 550c as the default printer.

MORE INFORMATION

Rotating the envelope is the recommended way to feed the envelopes with the DeskJet 540 because the printer has a large nonprintable region at the bottom of the page.

By rotating the envelope, you do not have to accommodate the nonprintable region and can print the return address closer to the left edge of the envelope page.
