PUB: "Format Fill Color" Command Unavailable in Spot Color Mode (136492)

SYMPTOMS

After you run the Outside Printer Setup Wizard and choose Spot Color, the Fill Color command on the Format menu is unavailable (dimmed).

CAUSE

After you run the Outside Printer Setup Wizard, you can only choose colors that are available for the mode you will be printing in. If you choose to print Spot Color, you can only choose tints and shades of black and tints and shades of the one or two spot colors you specified. The Fill Color dialog box is disabled in this scenario and so is the menu command that brings up this dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To change the fill color of an object in this case, use the Patterns And Shading command (on the Format menu).

NOTE: After you run the Outside Printer Wizard and choose Spot Color for the first time, Publisher shows you the following tip:

Since Publisher is now in spot color mode, the color dialogs will only include shades of gray and your spot color(s). The objects in your publication are restricted to the colors available in the color dialogs.
