PUB: Draw Objects Appear Blank in Converted Publisher 2.0 Files (136342)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0

This article was previously published under Q136342

SYMPTOMS

If a publication created in Publisher for Windows, version 1.0 or 2.0, is opened in Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0, or Microsoft Publisher 97 any Microsoft Draw objects the publication contains may appear as empty frames. If you double-click one of these objects, Microsoft Draw will start and display the graphic correctly. When you exit and return, the graphic will reappear.

CAUSE

When you install Publisher for Windows 95 or Microsoft Publisher 97, Microsoft Draw 1.0 is updated to Microsoft Draw 1.01, a 32-bit version of Microsoft Draw. Microsoft Draw 1.01 will not display Microsoft Draw 1.0 objects until they have been forced to update.

RESOLUTION

Method 1: If you have only one or two Microsoft Draw objects in your publication, you can simply double-click each one in turn, then click Exit And Return To Publication on Microsoft Draw's File menu.

Method 2: If you have many Microsoft Draw objects in your publication, you can do the following:
  1. Open the publication.
  2. On the File menu, click Printer Setup.
  3. Click a different printer than the one that is currently selected.
  4. Click OK.

Your Microsoft Draw objects will now display correctly.
  5. On the File menu, click Printer Setup.
  6. In the Printers list, click the original printer, and then click OK.

Changing the printer driver of a publication forces all the OLE objects in that publication to update.
