PUB: Publisher Setup Disables Screen Savers (136194)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0

This article was previously published under Q136194

SUMMARY

The Setup programs for Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95 and Microsoft Publisher 97 disable any Windows 95 or Windows NT screen saver while it is running. It does this to keep a screen saver from slowing Setup down by consuming too many resources. After Setup completes correctly, the screen saver is enabled again.

MORE INFORMATION

Setup changes the key in the Registry that Windows uses to check for screen savers. After Setup completes, the key is restored.

If Setup does not complete successfully, the screen saver will not be re- enabled. If this happens, you must turn the screen saver back on manually.

If you use a Windows 95 screen saver

  1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Screen Saver tab.
  4. Choose the screen saver you want to use and click OK.

If you use a Windows NT screen saver

  1. Run Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Desktop icon.
  3. Choose the screen saver you want to use and click OK.
If you use a third-party screen saver, such as After Dark by Berkeley Systems, consult the screen saver's documentation or help files.
