PRJ41: Setup Removes Earlier Project Files Without Warning (136155)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows 95 4.1
This article was previously published under Q136155 SYMPTOMS
When you run Microsoft Project Setup, the Setup program may remove all
earlier versions of Microsoft Project without asking if you would like to
remove the program and without warning you that this will occur.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you run the Microsoft Project 4.1 Setup program, and
if the Setup program is interrupted (for example, if you click Cancel or if
a conflict occurs so that Setup is not completed) after Setup installs the
Winproj.exe file. When you run Microsoft Project 4.1 Setup again, the Setup
program does not ask you if you want to remove the earlier version of
Microsoft Project. Instead, the Setup program removes all earlier versions
from your computer.
NOTE: When Microsoft Project version 4.1 removes an earlier version of Microsoft Project, your user files and your Global.mpt file from the
earlier version are not removed.
WORKAROUND
To avoid this problem when the Microsoft Project 4.1 Setup has been
interrupted, delete the Winproj.exe file from the incomplete installation
of Microsoft Project version 4.1 before you run Setup again.
To restore an earlier version of Microsoft Project that has been removed,
you must run the Setup program for that version and re-install the program.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
