This article was previously published under Q135637 SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Excel, the energy saving feature of monitors may
not work. When the low-power standby mode is invoked, the monitor will
go blank, and then the monitor will come back on immediately. The
monitor will no longer be in low-power standby mode.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- Any version of Microsoft Excel is running as the foreground program in
Windows 95.
-and-
- The low-power standby mode for the monitor is invoked.
-and-
- You are not using a screen saver.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, run a screen saver program. To run a screen
saver program, use the following steps:
- On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Screen Saver tab.
- Select one of the screen savers from the Screen Saver box.
This will ensure that a screen saver is run before the low-power standby
and shut off monitor modes are invoked.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
