Problems Printing Labels to HP DeskJet 500 Series Printer (124074)

SYMPTOMS

When you print labels to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 500 Series printer with the HP DeskJet 500 Series printer driver later than version 3.x, text near the bottom of the page may not print.

CAUSE

The HP DeskJet 500 Series printer driver versions later than 3.x have an nonprintable region of 0.33 inch at the top and 0.67 inch at the bottom of the page. Previous versions (3.x and earlier) of this printer driver had nonprintable regions of 0.5 inch at both the top and bottom of the page. Documents created while using a previous version of this HP printer driver series may have printed correctly due to the smaller bottom margin in the earlier version of the driver.

RESOLUTION

There are two possible resolutions to this problem.

OPTION 1

The following information is from the HP DeskJet 500 Series version 4.0, 4.1, and 5.0 README.TXT file.

To use the same nonprintable region as previous versions of the HP DeskJet Series printer drivers, select the Print Region check box in the INI Configuration program.

NOTE: This INI Configuration program is not available for the DeskJet drivers that ship with Windows 95.
  1. Run the HPVCNFIG.EXE file from the Program Manager or File Manager. (This file should be in the WINDOWS directory. For more information about running files from File Manager, see your Windows printed documentation or online Help.)
  2. Select Print Region.
  3. Choose OK.
The HPVCNFIG configuration program will modify the appropriate control values in your *.INI files and the nonprintable region will be changed to 0.5 inch.

NOTE: You must restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

OPTION 2

Use an earlier version (3.x or earlier) of the HP DeskJet 500 series driver.

  • DeskJet 500, 510, 520, 500C, 550C, and 560C (versions 4.x and later)
  • DeskJet original and DeskJet PLUS (version 4.x only)
